{"id":993,"date":"2025-02-18T08:44:12","date_gmt":"2025-02-18T07:44:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/?p=993"},"modified":"2025-02-18T08:52:38","modified_gmt":"2025-02-18T07:52:38","slug":"studio-shift-at-placemaking-week-europe-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/en\/studio-shift-at-placemaking-week-europe-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Studio SHIFT at Placemaking Week Europe 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Last October, <strong>Studio SHIFT<\/strong> participated in <strong>Placemaking Week Europe 2024<\/strong>, an event that brought together over 700 professionals, including placemakers, urban planners, and policymakers, in Rotterdam from across Europe and beyond.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This <strong>annual festival<\/strong> is a key platform for exchanging best practices in <strong>urban regeneration<\/strong> and an opportunity to foster new collaborations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 2024 edition took place in one of the Netherlands&#8217; most innovative cities \u2014 <strong>Rotterdam<\/strong>. With its ever-evolving urban fabric and increasing focus on <strong>climate change<\/strong>, the city provided the perfect setting for placemaking initiatives and workshops exploring the relationship between <strong>urban spaces, nature, and resilience<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1012\" src=\"https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/placemaking-week-1-1024x1012.jpg\" alt=\"Studio SHIFT alla Placemaking Week Europe 2024\" class=\"wp-image-984\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/placemaking-week-1-1024x1012.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/placemaking-week-1-300x297.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/placemaking-week-1-768x759.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/placemaking-week-1.jpg 1060w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Walkshop: &#8220;City Flows: Discovering the City with Our Senses&#8221;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During <strong>Placemaking Week Europe 2024<\/strong>,<strong> Studio SHIFT <\/strong>took part in the \u201c<strong>City Flows walkshop\u201d<\/strong>, a participatory experience led by our CEO and Design Director, <strong>Elena Giunta<\/strong>, alongside an international team of experts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>T\u00edmea Sz\u0151ke<\/strong>, researcher and facilitator at the International University of Catalonia<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cemre Ceren Asarl\u0131<\/strong>, expert in cultural dialogues and resilient communities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Katya Romanova<\/strong>, co-founder of <em>re:imagine your city<\/em> and designer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Silvia Chakarova<\/strong>, urban planner and co-founder of Placemake Ltd.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Louisa Kistemaker<\/strong>, expert in participatory theater and socio-ecological transformations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The walkshop was designed to explore the relationship between the city and water through a <strong>multisensory approach<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Participants engaged in a <strong>Walk&amp;Sense experience<\/strong>, using their senses to navigate and perceive public spaces in <strong>Rotterdam<\/strong>. This method allowed them to investigate how we experience and shape the places we inhabit, highlighting the water traces embedded in the urban fabric.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The initiative included a collective reflection session &#8220;on the move&#8221; and concluded with an <strong>analog data visualization<\/strong> exercise. This final step transformed individual insights and experiences into a visual representation of water\u2019s presence in the city, creating an interactive and narrative map of the relationship between public space and water resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"999\" src=\"https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/dataviz-1024x999.jpg\" alt=\"Data visualization\" class=\"wp-image-988\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/dataviz-1024x999.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/dataviz-300x293.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/dataviz-768x749.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/dataviz.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reflections &amp; Impact<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Studio SHIFT<\/strong>\u2019s participation in<strong> Placemaking Week Europe 2024<\/strong> reaffirmed our commitment to <strong>social innovation and sustainable urban design<\/strong>. This experience allowed us to contribute to a broader reflection on <strong>placemaking <\/strong>\u2014 rethinking how we design public spaces to be more <strong>resilient and inclusive<\/strong>.
