{"id":1149,"date":"2025-05-16T11:39:57","date_gmt":"2025-05-16T09:39:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/?p=1149"},"modified":"2025-05-22T09:13:26","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T07:13:26","slug":"inclusive-design-shaping-spaces-that-change-lives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/en\/inclusive-design-shaping-spaces-that-change-lives\/","title":{"rendered":"Inclusive Design: shaping spaces that change lives"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>When we talk about <strong>inclusive design<\/strong>, we\u2019re not just referring to visually pleasing aesthetics, but above all to a <strong>design approach <\/strong>that responds to everyone\u2019s needs \u2014 no one excluded.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At <strong>Studio SHIFT<\/strong>, we know this well: over the years, we\u2019ve poured our creativity and expertise into projects that aim to create more welcoming, stimulating, and respectful environments for all kinds of differences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But what does it really mean to design inclusively? It means putting people at the center \u2014 understanding their cognitive, emotional, sensory, and social needs \u2014 and translating those needs into concrete solutions: colors, furnishings, signage, paths, languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, we want to share three special projects where we applied the<strong> inclusive design<\/strong> paradigm to transform both spaces and lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Glicine2-768x1024.png\" alt=\"Progetto &quot;Il Glicine&quot;\" class=\"wp-image-1143\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Glicine2-768x1024.png 768w, https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Glicine2-225x300.png 225w, https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Glicine2-1152x1536.png 1152w, https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Glicine2-1536x2048.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Glicine2-scaled.png 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><br><\/strong><strong>&#8220;Glicine&#8221; and &#8220;Casa Fregonara&#8221;: the power of color<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In <strong>the \u201cGlicine\u201d and \u201cCasa Fregonara\u201d projects<\/strong>, developed for <strong>Anffas Borgomanero <\/strong>and<strong> Anffas Novara<\/strong>, <strong>Studio SHIFT<\/strong> created <strong>inclusive color plans <\/strong>aimed at rethinking existing spaces and making them better suited to the orientation and routine support needs of people with disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every color choice was carefully studied, taking into account how people cognitively and emotionally respond to chromatic stimuli. The<strong> color palettes<\/strong> were selected to enhance spatial orientation, reduce anxiety and stress, and encourage autonomy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The result? Spaces that are more livable, welcoming, and functional\u2014places where users can feel more independent, and truly at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Fregonara-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Casa Fregonara\" class=\"wp-image-1145\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Fregonara-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Fregonara-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Fregonara-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Fregonara-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.studioshift.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Fregonara-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><br>&#8220;<\/strong><strong>Reti Blu&#8221;: signage and autism-friendly design<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<strong>Reti Blu<\/strong>\u201d is a project launched in collaboration with <strong>Cooperativa Sociale Itaca<\/strong> and supported by <strong>Regione Lombardia<\/strong>. It introduces an innovative approach to make shared public spaces more accessible and understandable for people with autism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Set in Romano di Lombardia, the project involved working closely with the local network and <strong>Spazio Autismo<\/strong> staff to design <strong>Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) solutions<\/strong> integrated into the signage of selected locations (schools, public offices, gym, ranch, local museum, and partner caf\u00e9s).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the heart of the initiative are <strong>co-design workshops<\/strong> involving citizens, shop owners, educators, and families \u2014 crucial participatory moments where we listen, gather real needs, and co-create concrete inclusive communication tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our intervention focused on three key areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Socialization<\/strong>: creating contexts that promote interaction, dialogue, and participation.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Learning<\/strong>: developing visual and digital aids to support understanding and memory.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Autism-Friendly Environments<\/strong>: designing more readable and reassuring public spaces, with clear, consistent, icon-based signage.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Reti Blu<\/strong> puts people at the center and works to build a stronger, more aware social network.
